Our Work Environment
  • Weekly Sunday piano accompaniment and musical direction to include Holy Days of Obligation at the Roman Catholic Mass
  • 60-minute weekly rehearsals, 60-minute weekly meetings, special Catholic observances
1.1 Performance Requirements

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Adams1and1 Consulting Services and be responsible for the following:

1.1.1. Monthly timely reporting to Adams1and1 Consulting Services

1.1.2. Providing piano support every Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation at the Roman Catholic Mass to include both accompaniment and musical direction

1.1.3. Providing musical support (accompaniment and musical direction) for special Catholic observances and associated rehearsals, including but not limited to Holy Days, Christmas, Lent, and Easter services

1.1.4. Providing musical support for the mid-week Roman Catholic choir rehearsal for a minimum of 60 minutes per week

1.1.5. Meeting with the Roman Catholic Chaplain or Priest to plan all liturgical music requirements for a minimum of 60 minutes per week

1.1.6. Providing musical support and expertise for the Roman Catholic Faith Formation program at the request of the Catholic Director of Religious Education

1.1.7. Providing piano support for memorial service and associated rehearsals when directed by the Command Chaplain

1.1.8. Providing a minimum of 1-week notice when the contractor is unavailable for a service

1.1.9. Providing a qualified musical substitute for any contractor absence

1.1.10. Remaining professionally current through personal study, training, conferences, workshops, and seminars

1.2. Qualifications

1.2.1  Have a working knowledge of Catholic music and religious service organization

1.2.2. Provide supporting documentation showing qualifications and experience

1.2.3. Have a minimum of two years of experience as a pianist

1.2.4.  Can effectively play the piano

1.2.5.  Able to play a wide variety of music from traditional church hymns to contemporary church in support of all Catholic services and the service portions of Mass

1.2.6.  Must be able to read music from the Armed Forces Hymnal and Catholic Liturgical resources and demonstrate competence through supporting documentation and in person audition

1.2.7 Reside within 100 miles of MCAS Cherry Point, NC

1.3. Hours of Operation

1.3.1 Sundays: 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM for Divine Worship

1.3.2 Weekly rehearsals: 1 hour per week

(Position Filled) Contemporary Worship Service Music Leader

POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Adams1and1 Consulting Services and be responsible for the following:

1.  Introduction

The Installation Chaplain’s Office has a requirement for the non-personal services of a Music Leader for the Fort Bliss Community Chapel Worship Service in El Paso, Texas. The objective of this contract is to provide a Music Leader capable of playing guitar, bass, and/or keyboards and singing as well as leading the music team. The Music Leader must reside within 50 miles of Fort Bliss, Texas, and shall provide all personnel, supplies, transportation, tools, materials, supervision, and other items and non-personal services necessary to perform as the Music Leader as defined in the Scope of Work except for those items specified as Government-furnished property and services. The Contractor shall perform to the standards in this contract.

1.1.  Scope of Work

This contract includes all functions, tasks, and responsibilities normally performed by a Contemporary Protestant Music Leader. The Contractor shall be responsible for providing services as a Music Leader for the Bliss Community Chapel contemporary Protestant service. The Contractor shall direct the congregation music teams according to the direction of the Bliss Community Chapel’s Senior Pastor/ Chaplain. The Music Leader shall lead the music teams according to traditions (contemporary and traditional services) of the Bliss Community Chapel Worship Service, as directed by the schedule of services. This may include selecting worship songs for congregational singing, offertories, contemporary-style religious music, and special selections. The Music Leader shall perform at the music team’s rehearsals as directed by the schedule of services. Support service member’s rights for religious expression and freedom as provided by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Title 10, and AR 165-1 by providing opportunities for service members to freely practice their religion. The Contractor shall comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to Federal Law, New Mexico and Texas State Law(s), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and Army and installation regulations.

1.2.  Period of Performance

The period of performance shall be for one (1) Base Year of 12 months with 3, one-year options. The period of performance reads as follows: Base 15 SEP 2023 through 14 SEP 2024. Option year 1 shall be from 15 SEP 2024 through 14 SEP 2025. Option year 2 shall be from 15 SEP 2025 through 14 SEP 2026. Option year 3 shall be from 15 SEP 2026 through 14 SEP 2027.

1.3.  Hours of Operation

The Contractor shall provide performance/service during the following times: Rehearsals (one mid-weekday from 5:00-7:00 PM; one Sunday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM), Music Services (Sunday from 11:00-12:15 AM). The Contractor will be required to provide 12 special worship service events throughout the year as well as a rehearsal for each event. Special events shall be for two (2) hours per special event and a one (1) hour rehearsal with the music team prior to the event. The special event may range from a special religious holiday that does not fall on a Sunday or a memorial ceremony for one of the congregants. All guidance concerning worship services, rehearsals, and special events will be given by the Senior Pastor (Chaplain). An exception exists when the Government facility is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government directed facility closings.  

1.4.  Performance Requirements and Qualifications

1.4.1.  Special Qualifications

The Contractor shall provide a resume. The Contractor’s resume shall include three (3) work-related references. A letter of recommendation shall be provided from the listed references. The contractor must have 3 years of full-time (at least 52 music sessions for an audience) experience or 5 years of part-time (at least 25 music sessions for an audience) experience as a music leader in the area of contemporary praise and worship style music. The resume shall clearly demonstrate the proposed Music Leader meets the following qualifications.

 1.4.1.1.  The Contractor must be able to read sheet music and play instruments with tempo, rhythm, and registration to a large congregation. The Contractor must ensure a coordinated service of worship for the Bliss Community Chapel Worship Service.

1.4.2.  Basic Knowledge of Christian Faith (Protestant)

The Contractor shall demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Christian Faith (Protestant) and be familiar with the musical traditions/customs of the contemporary Protestant Christian Church. The Music Leader should be fully devoted and committed to expressing that devotion in worship, consistent with the contemporary Worship Service music tradition. The Music Leader shall be committed to a blended/convergence worship style that is creative, visionary, flexible, and diverse. The Music Leader shall have training and experience in worship planning and have solid music skills including vocals and the ability to play at a minimum, one of the following: keyboard/piano/guitar/bass. He or she shall have the ability to direct, produce, and arrange as needed.

1.4.3.  Specific Tasks

 a) The Contractor (Music Leader) shall be responsible for leading and providing services as the music leader for the Bliss Community Chapel Contemporary Protestant Worship Service.

b) The Contractor (Music Leader) shall work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor/Chaplain to coordinate and plan for all Bliss Community Chapel Contemporary Protestant Worship Services, including Sunday morning worship, rehearsals, special events, and fellowship/outreach activities as directed by the Lead Chaplain.

c) The Contractor (Music Leader) shall direct the Worship Team with guidance from the Senior Pastor/Chaplain.

d) The Contractor (Music Leader) shall work with the Senior Pastor/Chaplain or his/her representative on a weekly basis to select songs that are fitting and appropriate for the Bliss Community Chapel Contemporary Protestant Worship Service, under the guidance of the Senior Chaplain for the Bliss Community Chapel Contemporary Protestant Worship Service.

e) The Music Leader shall be responsible for conducting Rehearsals one midday a week for 1.5 hours and the same day as worship service.

f) The Music Leader shall be an active participant in the monthly Bliss Community Chapel Contemporary Protestant Worship Service leadership meeting.

g) The Music leader shall work with the Senior Pastor/Chaplain and Chapel staff to reserve the sanctuary for rehearsals.

h) The Music leader shall have all songs selected and distributed to the Worship Team no later than 24 hours prior to rehearsal so that sufficient time is given to prepare and rehearse the music individually.

i) The Contractor shall assist in setting up and tearing down musical equipment for each worship service as required.
